Today, my heart is very, very sad.
You see, today marks the fourt death within a month of one of my biggest inspiration. Amy Winehouse died a month ago, followed by my great-aunt and my grandfather two weeks ago. Today, Jack Layton, a canadian politician and leader of the official opposition, died from his battle against cancer at the age of 61.
This was one special human being. He was this great politician who believed we could change the world. He believed in doing politics his own way, the human way. He kept on inspiring and smiling -constantly smiling- and drew Canadians in.
Before dying, he wrote this open letter to Canadians. It was published today. It ends like this:
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."
Yes, Jack, we will.
